Lucknow: Laharpur police in Sitapur have registered an FIR against six individuals, including a former sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), over allegations of fraud. The case, dating back nearly 25 years, revolves around allegations that the main accused, Manoj Kumar, fraudulently changed his father’s name in official documents to establish a claim over ancestral property.Police said the FIR was lodged following a court order on a complaint filed by Vinay Kumar, a resident of Pakariyapur village in Barabanki district. As per the complaint, in 1995, Manoj allegedly got his father’s name altered in consolidation (chakbandi) and revenue records with the help of the then village head and officials, thereby projecting himself as a legal heir. The complainant alleged that despite raising objections and submitting complaints to authorities in 2020 seeking cancellation of these certificates, no action was taken. He further claimed to have approached senior officials, including the chief secretary, DGP, district magistrate and superintendent of police in 2024, but to no avail.Following this, the matter was taken to court, which directed registration of an FIR. Thereafter, police have booked Manoj, the then SDM, tehsildar, ARTO, supply inspector and the then village head.Laharpur police station in-charge, Arvind Kumar said an FIR has been registered and the case is under investigation. “The matter is quite old. Detailed investigation will reveal the actual facts,” he said.
