Vasco: Verna police have filed an FIR against the contractor and supervisor of a construction site for their failure to provide safety gear to its workers, which led to the death of a worker after a wooden plank fell on his head.Verna police said contractor Santosh Hiremath and supervisor Ajay Kumar Ray were negligent in failing to provide safety gear, including helmets and harnesses, to a labourer working at an under-construction building near MES College, Zuarinagar.“The accused failed to securely fasten the wooden plank between the construction lift’s framework and the building’s concrete portion. The plank slipped due to vibrations during lift operation and fell on the head of labourer Huchhappa Sonakappa, who was working on the ground beside the lift. He sustained head injuries and later succumbed to them,” said Verna police.The incident happened on Oct 17, and an FIR under section 106 (1) of BNS has been registered. Further investigation is under way by PSI Aditya Velip.
