Ahmedabad: The civic body’s estate department has removed 6,887 handcarts and stalls between Jan 1 and April 25 this year, officials said, adding that approximately 25,089 illegal boards, banners and hoardings were also removed. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) locked 10,598 illegally parked vehicles and collected penalties besides removing 49,857 miscellaneous goods and materials from the city’s seven zones. Data shared by AMC shows that 1,094 carts and stalls were removed from the North Zone, 834 from the South Zone, 966 from East Zone, 1,075 from Central Zone, 1,532 from the West Zone, 873 from North-West, and 513 from the South-West Zone.From the West Zone, 7,911 hoardings, the highest across the city, were removed. There were 3,443 such removals in the Central Zone, 3,441 in North Zone, 3,812 in East Zone, 2,892 in North-West Zone, 1,833 in South-West Zone, and 1,757 in the South Zone. Over the four months, AMC collected a total penalty of Rs 2,57,26,570. Of this, the highest — Rs 82,28,950 — was collected in the North-West Zone, followed by Rs 38,22,000 in the West Zone and Rs 35,01,400 in the East Zone, among others.
