Hyderabad: Investigators probing the rape case against a trainee IPS officer claim to have gathered substantial evidence, including financial transactions, digital communications and witness statements that they believe corroborate the allegations made by a fellow trainee officer.Apart from recording the statements of the complainant and her husband, Hyderabad police have also questioned SVP National Police Academy housekeeping staff, four IPS trainees, an IAS trainee and a woman who worked at an institution run by the brother of the accused officer.Based on the alleged disclosure made by the accused, police seized his mobile phone and laptop from his residence in Ashok Nagar. “The accused had opened the gallery of his phone in the presence of panch witnesses. Private videos and photos of the woman trainee officer recorded by him without her consent were found in the gallery,” said an investigator.The woman officer alleged that the accused had damaged her laptop during an argument at the academy and later transferred Rs 50,000 as compensation. “She returned the amount to him immediately,” said a police officer.Investigators also recorded the statement of a woman who was allegedly in a relationship with the accused. The woman, who was living separately from her husband and working at a private firm in the city, told police that she came in contact with the accused through social media after being impressed by his journey from a constable to an IPS officer.“In Jan, she resigned from the private firm on the request of the accused and joined the institution run by the brother of the accused. She claimed to have worked without any salary due to her relationship with the accused and even gave Rs 15 lakh to run the institution, and also towards personal expenses of the accused. She claimed to have refused a live-in relationship proposal from the accused since her marriage was yet to be dissolved,” said a police officer who was part of the investigation.According to police, the woman stopped working at the institution a few months ago after being contacted by the woman trainee officer, who is believed to have informed her that she was in a relationship with the accused and that he had behaved violently with her. Her statement was recorded after the rape case was registered.Police have also recorded the statement of an IAS trainee who became acquainted with the accused through social media after he cleared the UPSC examination. Investigators said the accused had proposed marriage to her in Nov 2025, which she declined. As she was acquainted with the woman officer in training, the accused had allegedly messaged her regarding his relationship with the complainant.Statements of four IPS trainees familiar with the alleged relationship between the accused and the woman trainee officer have also been recorded. “The trainee IPS witnesses in their video statements have corroborated the woman officer’s statement,” said a senior officer.In his statement, the woman trainee officer’s husband told police that the accused threatened him through messages after the woman officer accepted his marriage proposal in Jan. He voluntarily handed over his mobile phone for forensic examination.Meanwhile, police have moved a petition seeking custody of the accused for further interrogation, while the accused has filed a bail petition. Both petitions are scheduled to come up for hearing on Tuesday.
