Hyderabad: The much-awaited Dr Marri Channa Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar, is set to be inaugurated by chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday, marking the opening of one of the state’s major govt super-speciality hospitals.Health minister Damodar Raja Narasimha on Sunday inspected arrangements at the hospital and reviewed preparations with officials from the health, GHMC, police, traffic police, HMWS&SB and other departments. Officials were directed to ensure smooth traffic movement, parking, security, sanitation, drinking water, power supply and crowd management during the inauguration.The 1,000-bed hospital has been developed as a centre of excellence for cardiac sciences and transplant sciences. According to the health department, the facility would have 37 departments and a sanctioned capacity of 1,000 beds.The hospital has 300 ICU beds, 16 major operation theatres and advanced diagnostic facilities, including MRI and CT scan services. It also has a cath lab and facilities for organ transplantation.The facility, spread across 22 acres and built at an estimated cost of around 1,200 crore, has dedicated academic and research infrastructure, a multi-level parking facility and accommodation facilities for patients’ attendants.The project received administrative sanction in April 2022, while construction began in Feb 2023 during the previous BRS regime. Despite delays during the construction phase, the hospital subsequently underwent equipment installation, trial runs and preparation of clinical services. Trial OP services covering 22 departments, including cardiology, neurology, nephrology, gastroenterology and urology, were also conducted earlier this year.“Govt has positioned TIMS Sanathnagar as a major public sector alternative for advanced and super-speciality healthcare, aimed at reducing the burden on existing tertiary hospitals such as NIMS, Gandhi and Osmania,” a health official said.
