Spectator accuses female bouncer of assault over queue dispute during IPL match in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A spectator at a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium at Uppal has alleged that a female bouncer abused and assaulted him during a tiff over queue management at a refreshments counter at the venue. The incident reportedly took place around 8.30 pm during the break on May 6. In a post on ‘X’, cricket enthusiast Gautam claimed that he was standing in line along with other fans when the bouncer allegedly began verbally abusing spectators while instructing them to maintain the queue.According to Gautam, the situation escalated after he started recording the alleged misconduct on his mobile phone. He alleged that the bouncer noticed him filming, physically assaulted him, snatched his phone and ran towards the exit.In his post, Gautam claimed the bouncer kept the phone with her for nearly 30 minutes and allegedly attempted to delete the video footage recorded on the device. He described the episode as “theft, assault and destruction of evidence”.Gautam further alleged that officials managing a lounge intervened after he raised an alarm. According to him, the management reviewed CCTV footage, tracked the woman near the stadium’s main gate and recovered the phone before she could leave the premises. He also claimed that although the phone was eventually returned, the video recording had allegedly been tampered with and the bouncer refused to apologise after being brought back before him.Following the incident, Gautam said he lodged a formal written complaint at the police control room at the stadium. He also shared photographs of the complaint and the bouncer on social media.Uppal inspector Y Ramalinga Reddy said the female bouncer had also filed a counter-complaint against Gautam.“We have received complaints from both parties. We are enquiring into the matter and necessary action will be taken,” the officer said.
