Rajkot: A man allegedly bludgeoned his 25-year-old son to death with a hammer while the young man lay sleeping at their residence behind the Rajput Khant community hall in Ahir Chowk within the limits of Bhaktinagar police station of Rajkot.According to police, the deceased, identified as Ram Savseta (25), and his father, Babu, were locked in frequent disputes stemming from Ram’s alcohol consumption and domestic friction.Babu walked into the Bhaktinagar police station and confessed to killing his son.A heated argument broke out between the two on Thursday morning. Later that afternoon, while Ram was asleep inside the home, Babu reportedly entered carrying a hammer and repeatedly struck him on the head. Ram died on the spot.“During preliminary questioning, the father revealed that the conflict had reached a boiling point during Thursday morning’s dispute over Ram’s drinking habits and ongoing family tensions. Babu claimed that his son regularly arrived home drunk and fought with with family members,” said Jaideepsinh Parmar, inspector of Bhaktinagar police station.The family members revealed that Ram’s engagement had been broken off some time ago, after which he reportedly sank into depression and began drinking heavily. His escalating alcohol dependence became the primary trigger for repeated, heated confrontations with his father.Babu, who is currently living a retired life, has three daughters and was the father to his only son, Ram.
