Father-son duo booked for forging Dhoraji dargah trust documents

Rajkot: An FIR has been registered at Dhoraji police station in Rajkot district against a father and son for allegedly forging official documents, letterheads and signatures to illegally secure a trustee position within a local dargah trust. The complaint was lodged on Sunday, by 56-year-old Asharaf Pattni, who has served as president of Kutubshah Peer Dargah Trust in Dhoraji since Aug 2015. According to the FIR, the primary accused, Shabir Haji Ismail Godil — who was already serving as a trustee — conspired with his son, Shahid Shabir Godil, to illegitimately appoint Shahid to the trust’s board. The complainant alleges that no official meeting was held, yet the accused fabricated a fake resolution dated Sep 2023. To execute the fraud, the father-son duo allegedly created a bogus letterhead and rubber stamp in the trust’s name. Furthermore, they are accused of forging the signatures of the trust’s president and other trustees. Most notably, the forged documents allegedly included the signature of a former trustee who had died in 2021. These fraudulent documents were then submitted to the Gujarat state waqf board to register Shahid as a trustee. The path to filing the FIR involved a prolonged legal struggle. After the state waqf board rejected the complainant’s initial objections in Feb 2024, an appeal was filed with the state waqf tribunal in Gandhinagar in Dec 2024.On June 2, 2026, the tribunal issued a ruling directing that a criminal complaint be filed for the forgery. The complainant noted in the FIR that the slight delay in reporting the matter to police was due to his ongoing medical treatment as a heart patient.Dhoraji police registered the case under sections dealing with forgery, using forged documents for cheating and criminal conspiracy.
