Noida: Four people were killed late Sunday night after a truck lost control on Yamuna Expressway in the Jewar area, broke through the central divider and landed on a white Baleno travelling on the opposite carriageway, crushing it, police said.The victims were returning to Delhi after spending Raksha Bandhan and an extended weekend with their families in Maharajganj. They sustained severe injuries and died during treatment. Police have arrested the truck driver and impounded the vehicle.Police said the Rajasthan-registered truck broke through the guardrails and central verge around 10.40 pm and became airborne for a few seconds before landing on the car on the Agra-Delhi carriageway. A highway police patrol team called in a JCB to move the truck and extricate the occupants trapped inside. The injured were rushed to Jeevan Kailash Hospital, where doctors declared all four dead during treatment. The bodies have been sent for autopsy.Among the dead were Abhisar and his father Ritesh Pandey, both residents of Najafgarh in Delhi, Vikas Gupta alias Vicky, a resident of Kotwali in Maharajganj, and Vijay, who was driving the private taxi. Two of the victims worked in Noida, police said.The car’s bonnet was completely mangled and the windshield shattered in the crash. Videos of the crash, circulating on social media platforms, show a large section of steel beam rails crumpled on the expressway. A bike and a tempo that were travelling behind the car braked hard to avoid a tail-end collision and were also damaged, but no injuries were reported.The accident also disrupted traffic on the Yamuna Expressway for nearly an hour before police cleared the carriageway of both vehicles.ACP Sisodia said a preliminary investigation indicated the truck had gone out of control, resulting in the crash. The truck driver has been arrested and is being questioned. Police are trying to ascertain whether he was drunk or speeding. Based on the complaint given by relatives of one of the deceased, a case under BNS sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death due to negligence) has been registered. Investigators are also scanning CCTV footage to establish the exact sequence of events.On June 27, two people were injured after a speeding car collided with another vehicle, overturned and trapped its driver underneath on Yamuna Expressway near Dankaur.
