Chandigarh: Fresh off a T20 World Cup nod, city cricketer and Delhi Capitals standout Nandini Sharma is heading to Japan to defend India’s Asian Games gold won in 2023 at Hangzhou.She will travel to Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in Sept. Before she became part of the ongoing T20 World Cup in England, her international trajectory accelerated earlier this year when she represented India A at the ACC Rising Star Women’s Asia Cup.A standout campaign with the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) proved pivotal, showcasing her ability against top-tier global talent. Her primary role is of a right-arm medium-fast bowler.She got 3 wickets in the first match that she played, got four scalps in the three matches that the team played in the England series, and she does keep the economy also in control.In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) season with the Delhi Capitals, she took 17 wickets in 10 matches and made history as the first Indian bowler to record a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul in the tournament.Domestically, Sharma has been a mainstay for Punjab and the UT Cricket Association (UTCA). She has delivered consistently across Under-19, Under-23, and senior BCCI tournaments, including the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal and T20 Challenger series.UTCA president Saraansh Tandon hailed her selection as a milestone for local cricket. “Nandini’s selection is a matter of immense pride for Chandigarh and UTCA,” Tandon said.“She has earned this opportunity through dedication, discipline, and consistent performances, and we are confident she will continue to inspire young cricketers from the region,” the UTCA chief said.
