Farmers protest in Patiala, seek arrest of accused in girl’s throat-slitting case

Patiala: Members of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Numberdar Union staged a protest outside the SDM office here on Wednesday, demanding the immediate arrest of those behind a knife attack that left a three-year-old girl fighting for her life at PGIMER, Chandigarh.The protesters alleged that the accused were still roaming free more than 10 days after the attack and claimed that police had failed to arrest anyone.According to protesters, Gurvinder Singh, a numberdar of Baura Kalan village, was allegedly robbed of Rs 25,000 by three masked men on two motorcycles on Sept 17. He approached Sadar police but alleged that the police did not cooperate and that no FIR was registered.Two days later, on Sept 19, three men allegedly attacked him with a knife as he rode his motorcycle near the village, with his three-year-old daughter seated in front. The girl suffered a deep injury to her throat. “The attackers mocked me for filing a police complaint. My daughter is now battling for her life in PGI,” Gurvinder had said. Police then said they were investigating and would “not spare anyone involved”.Naib tehsildar Jagdish Singh and Nabha Sadar SHO reached the protest site and assured the gathering that the accused would be arrested soon. The protesters then ended the dharna.SKM leaders warned that the agitation would be intensified if the administration failed to deliver justice.
