Farmer arrested for electrocuting lioness to death

Rajkot: A farmer has been arrested for allegedly allowing passing electricity through a wire along the boundary of his farm, resulting in the electrocution of a lioness in Bordi village of Mahuva taluka in Bhavnagar district.The incident came to light on Aug 27 on agricultural land owned by Nandlal Jani. The land had been leased to Gobar Makwana, a resident of Bordi, who had been cultivating the farm for the past three years.Following information about the death of the lioness, forest officials and team of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL) visited the spot.The accused was produced before the Mahuva Additional Judicial Magistrate’s Court on August 29. The court rejected his bail application and remanded him to judicial custody.According to forest officials, the lioness aged between five and nine years had died after coming into contact with an illegally electrified wire laid around the farm boundary.
