Fan collapse, waterlogging put Delhi govt school under scanner

New Delhi: Viral videos of a ceiling fan crashing inside a classroom and waterlogging outside a govt school in Delhi’s Kadipur have brought the school’s infrastructure and maintenance under scrutiny. The school, however, alleged that longstanding civic issues around the campus have remained unresolved.Responding to the incident, an education department official said the fan came down Saturday and was repaired the same day. It added that no student or staff member was injured.According to a school official, rainwater collected outside the school following recent showers. The official further claimed that the water was cleared only Wednesday evening.According to members of the school management, infrastructure-related issues, particularly persistent waterlogging outside the school, have continued for years despite repeated representations to the authorities concerned. The development comes even as the govt is carrying out a city-wide digital mapping of infrastructure in its govt schools. The exercise is intended to build a real-time database of infrastructure and facilities across nearly 1,090 govt schools in the capital.
