Jaipur: A 14-year hunt for a fugitive accused of posing as a doctor and allegedly causing a woman’s death through wrong treatment ended Friday with Rajasthan police’s CID Crime Branch arresting a 52-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, where he was allegedly living under a fake identity and running an illegal clinic.Police identified the accused as Dulal Bakshi, a resident of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, who carried a reward of Rs 25,000 and had been absconding since 2012 in a case registered at Baytu police station in Barmer.Investigators said Bakshi allegedly changed identities multiple times while moving through West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh before settling in Ghazipur district, where he was allegedly operating ‘Maa Clinic’ under a fake name.According to police, Bakshi opened a clinic near Baytu bus stand in 2012 and projected himself as a reputed doctor despite lacking medical qualifications. The case against him was registered after Magi Devi, a resident of Kakron Ki Dhani, allegedly died following treatment administered by him for fever.Investigators alleged Bakshi administered a wrong injection and glucose drip, after which the woman’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Police said he fled from the clinic on the pretext of bringing medicines while she was being shifted to hospital, where she later died on the way.Acting on intelligence inputs, the CID team tracked Bakshi to Amhat village in Ghazipur through technical surveillance and local intelligence. Police said the accused allegedly tried to attack the team using tools lying inside the clinic before being overpowered after a brief struggle. During questioning, he initially identified himself as Deepak before allegedly confessing his real identity.
