Extortion call, then gunfire: Shots fired at Pune businessman's factory by 'Bishnoi' gang

PUNE: An unidentified person claiming to be a member of the Bishnoi gang allegedly tried to extort money from a Pune-based businessman, while some individuals also opened fire at his industrial establishment, police said on Tuesday.According to police, Amol Rajendra Chamadai, a steel products businessman, told the Wanwadi police that he received a phone call around 4.30 pm on Monday from a person who identified himself as “Arzu Bishnoi”. The caller allegedly demanded money and issued threats, officials said, without disclosing further details.An official said Chamdai subsequently approached the Fursungi police station, as the case fell within its jurisdiction.While he was at the police station, four rounds were allegedly fired at his industrial establishment in the Fursungi area at around 8.10pm, the official said.No injuries were reported in the incident, police added.An investigation is underway to ascertain the identity of the accused behind the alleged extortion threat and the firing at the industrial establishment, and to examine any possible link between the two incidents.The Fursungi police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons based on the businessman’s complaint, an official said.(With agency inputs)
