Extend SIR deadline: KTR to EC

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has urged Election Commission to extend the deadline of special intensive revision (SIR), which is scheduled to end this month.KTR held a review meeting at Telangana Bhavan on Monday with members of the special committee appointed by the party to assess the ongoing SIR process being conducted under the supervision of the EC.Speaking on the occasion, KTR expressed dissatisfaction that the BLOs, appointed by the EC, were failing in many areas to properly inform voters about the SIR process. He said that only 7 % of the enumeration forms distributed by BLOs, were filled out and submitted so far and said there was little confidence that the remaining 93% of the process would be completed by the deadline, July 24.“Considering the ground-level situation, the SIR deadline be extended without fail,” he said. The BRS working president also criticised the EC for focusing on duplicate votes within districts while overlooking the issue of the same individual being listed in voter rolls across different states. He urged strict implementation of the rule that each person should have voting rights in only one place. He recalled that a memorandum was already submitted to the Telangana chief electoral officer on this matter. KTR announced that a BRS delegation would soon visit Delhi to present the same demand before the ECI .He said booth-level agents (BLAs) appointed by BRS across the state were working effectively and advised them to remain vigilant so that every eligible voter was included in the electoral roll. He added that awareness meetings for BLAs had already been conducted in more than 93 assembly constituencies statewide, and similar meetings would soon be held in the remaining constituencies. To monitor the SIR process, KTR assigned responsibilities to members of the special committee formed by BRS according to the erstwhile combined districts.
