‘Expired’ mess food sparks protest at LU
Students of Lucknow University hostels staging protest at the central mess against sub-quality food supplies on Sunday

Lucknow: Over 50 students from various Lucknow University hostels staged a protest at the central mess on Sunday, alleging that expired and poor-quality food supplies were being used by mess workers to prepare meals for them.During the protest, the students inspected food supplies stored at the central mess and demanded an immediate inspection of the stock, along with regular monitoring of food supplies. A student Shubham Kharwar said, “This is a serious issue concerning the health and safety of hundreds of students. The university administration must conduct an inquiry into it, make the food-quality and expiry inspection reports public and fix responsibility.Another protester Suyash Pandey said that the students pay around Rs 40,000 in fees and have a right to safe, hygienic and quality food. Around four to five students have fallen ill after having food served in the mess.LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava said, “The matter has come to our notice. The authorities will conduct an inquiry into the allegations and take appropriate action. The safety and well being of students is our priority.”
