Ex-sarpanch shot dead in Fatehabad village

Hisar: A former sarpanch was allegedly shot dead in Kharakheri village of Fatehabad district Saturday evening, sending shockwaves through the area.The assailants pumped three bullets into 50-year-old Rajendra Khileri.According to the police, Khileri was sitting at a dhaba when two unidentified youths arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly opened fire on him before fleeing the scene. The 50-year-old died on the spot.Preliminary investigation indicated that several rounds were fired during the attack, the police added.Rajendra Khileri was considered politically active and was reportedly close to former Fatehabad MLA and BJP leader Dura Ram Bishnoi. He was also said to have close ties with the family of former Haryana chief minister Chaudhary Bhajan Lal.Khileri is survived by a son and a daughter. Family members said he maintained an active role in village affairs and local politics. Investigators are also probing the possibility of old enmity behind the murder.Sources claimed that during a local fair recently, Khileri was involved in a dispute with some persons.A police spokesperson said they got evidence of seven or eight rounds of firing, while the victim sustained three bullet injuries.As part of the investigation, previous disputes between the involved groups are also being examined, said the police, adding that Khileri’s body was shifted to Agroha Medical College for post-mortem examination, and efforts were underway to identify and trace the culprits.MSID:: 132183167 413 |
