Gurgaon: The land acquisition collector (LAC) office has sought the auction of properties belonging to a former municipal councillor and his four brothers to recover compensation for land acquired from their late mother, which allegedly went to the brothers although part of it was payable to their sister.The department has written to the district deputy commissioner seeking the auction, according to information the sister, a resident of Hisar’s Model Town, obtained under Right to Information (RTI) Act.The woman alleged that after their mother’s death, the compensation for her land in village Sihi was to be distributed equally among all legal heirs. Instead, she said, her five brothers got her share transferred into their own bank accounts.During court proceedings, the LAC office reportedly acknowledged that her share had been released to the brothers.In an order dated Aug 4, 2025, the court directed the department to pay the woman’s share within two months. It also gave her liberty to pursue appropriate legal remedies if she was aggrieved by the action of the LAC officials or her brothers in receiving the amount due to her.The department subsequently paid her Rs 31.8 lakh towards the principal amount. However, she said, the interest payable under the court’s order has not been released. “The outstanding interest is estimated at around Rs 50 lakh,” she said.The LAC office’s latest communication to the deputy commissioner, seeking the auction of the brothers’ properties, indicates that the department has begun steps for recovery.
