Ensure safety of med college students in Medak, says MLA

Hyderabad: Raising concerns over the safety of medical students, Medak MLA Mynampally Rohith has urged the Telangana govt to take immediate measures to improve the deteriorating conditions at the Govt Medical College, Medak. In a letter addressed to health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, the MLA said students are being forced to stay in unsafe hostels where snakes and scorpions have been frequently entering the premises, posing a serious threat to their lives.According to the letter, two students have already suffered scorpion stings, while venomous snakes, including cobras, kraits and Russell’s vipers, have reportedly been spotted in and around the hostel buildings. With the ongoing monsoon increasing the risk of reptile movement, the MLA warned that students are living in constant fear, affecting both their safety and academic performance. The MLA also highlighted the poor state of hostel infrastructure, stating that the buildings and mess are plagued by severe roof leakages and structural damage, making living conditions unsafe and unhygienic. Over the past days, several students have also raised similar concerns, particularly the first-year MBBS students, who are preparing for university examinations.Seeking urgent intervention, the MLA requested the health minister to order comprehensive pest control and reptile eradication drives across the campus, undertake immediate repairs to leaking roofs and damaged structures, and ensure safe and hygienic accommodation for students. He stressed that prompt action is essential to prevent any untoward incident and safeguard the welfare of future medical professionals.
