Ahmedabad: An elderly woman lost her life after falling from a two-wheeler on a highway near Adalaj, turning a family’s return trip from a social function into a fatal incident. Police have registered a case of negligent driving against her son following a complaint lodged by his younger brother.Police said the family, residents of Kalol, had attended a function at a relative’s house in the Dariapur area on Sunday. After the programme, the family left for home around 11.30pm on two separate two-wheelers. While one son, Rizwan Mansuri, was riding ahead with his wife, his brother Irfan Mansuri followed behind on another two-wheeler with their 71-year-old mother, Naseembanu, seated as a pillion rider. At around 12.45am, near Shrinath Chowkdi on the Adalaj-Zundal Road, Irfan allegedly rode at a high speed and hit a speed-breaker, causing the two-wheeler to skid and lose balance, police said. Due to the impact, the elderly woman was thrown off the vehicle and suffered severe head injuries. When other family members reached the spot, they found her unconscious and bleeding. She was rushed in an ambulance to a hospital in Gandhinagar and was later referred to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for advanced medical care. However, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted. Adalaj police have registered a case and are carrying out further investigation.
