Lucknow: A 70-year-old man was killed and eight others were injured after a group of armed men allegedly attacked members of a family during a dispute over agricultural land in Guman Singh Ka Purwa village under the Subeha police station area of Barabanki on Sunday evening.According to police, the attackers arrived on a tractor along with several supporters amid a dispute over possession of the land. The group allegedly entered the disputed field and began ploughing standing paddy crop.When Shamsher Ali (70) confronted the tractor driver, he was allegedly hit by the vehicle and later assaulted with sticks, resulting in his death.His brother, Rashid Ali (60), who rushed to rescue him, was also severely beaten and sustained serious injuries. Shamsher’s nephew, Arman Ali, was among those injured in the attack.Police said the accused later entered the family’s house and allegedly assaulted several women with sticks. Among the injured were Sajijul Nisha (45), Badarunnisa (46) and Shaba (16).On receiving information, Subeha police rushed to the village and shifted the injured to the Community Health Centre in Haidergarh for treatment.Barabanki SP Arpit Vijayvargiya said two persons had been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
