Jaisalmer: An elderly couple of Pakistani-origin was found dead under suspicious circumstances at their home under the Mohangarh police station area in Jaisalmer Saturday, with preliminary indications suggesting strangulation.The deceased were identified as Lakharam Bhil (80) and his wife Reshma Bhil (75), who lived alone in a Bhil settlement behind Navodaya Vidyalaya. They had no children and had migrated from Rahim Yar Khan district in Pakistan around 20 years ago. They had recently been granted Indian citizenship.According to police, Lakharam’s nephew Chandaram discovered the bodies when he visited their house in the morning. The husband’s body was found in the courtyard, while the wife’s body lay inside a room. Villagers were alerted, following which police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the mortuary. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare said silver anklets worn by the woman were missing, raising suspicion of a robbery angle. Footprints were also found near the house. “No visible injury marks were found during the initial examination. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem,” he said, adding that a medical board has been constituted.After postmortem, the bodies of the couple were handed over to relatives.Mohangarh SHO Baburam Delu said an FSL team has been called and the case is being probed from all angles.
