Chennai: State Platform for Common School System (SPCSS) on Thursday condemned the attack on students who protested in solidarity with Delhi protesters demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET irregularities.“In many districts, police arrested protesting students by entering the campuses and took them into custody. This is against democratic principles. Students have right to expression, and refusing it will weaken democracy,” said P B Prince Gajendrababu, general secretary of SPCSS.He also said Tamil Nadu will not accept the attack on students and youngsters who express solidarity in support of protesting students.“Teachers and parents will not remain silent by watching such attacks. Tamil Nadu govt should join hands with students and youngsters to abolish NEET and should not refuse democratic rights. Police should give permission for students to protest,” Gajendrababu said.“If the state govt fails to act democratically, SPCSS will organise a protest of educationists and activists in support of students against NEET,” he added.In his statement, he also pointed out that NEET has failed in both objectives of stopping commercialisation of medical education and ensuring quality.
