Vranasi: The Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Division of East Central Railway has achieved two major milestones in railway safety, infrastructure strengthening and freight wagon maintenance by setting new records in track renewal and wagon overhaul.The engineering department renewed 10.63 track kilometres in July 2026 by replacing old and life-expired sleepers using the advanced Track Relaying Train (TRT) machine on the Grand Chord section. This is the highest-ever monthly performance by DDU Division and the second-highest across Indian Railways during the month, after Secunderabad Division.DRM Uday Singh Meena said the fully mechanised TRT machine ensures precise, efficient and high-quality track relaying in accordance with engineering standards. He said timely replacement of worn-out sleepers strengthens track reliability, enhances safety and facilitates smooth train operations on the Grand Chord section, one of the busiest rail corridors in the country.Congratulating the civil engineering department, the DRM credited the achievement to the dedication, technical expertise and teamwork of the officers and staff. He said scientific maintenance and timely renewal of railway tracks are essential for ensuring safe, seamless and punctual train operations.In another significant achievement, the division’s Wagon Care Centre at DDU Junction completed the Routine Overhaul (ROH) of 918 BOXN freight wagons in July 2026, the highest monthly ROH performance recorded by any division in Indian Railways.The performance is equivalent to the maintenance of around 15 Closed Circuit rakes and surpassed the division’s own previous national record of 905 freight wagons, achieved in Dec 2025.Routine Overhaul involves detailed technical inspection, repairs, component maintenance and certification of freight wagons in accordance with prescribed safety standards, improving their reliability, serviceability and availability for freight operations.Senior divisional mechanical engineer (Carriage & Wagon) Nitin Kumar said the record was achieved through quality maintenance practices, time-bound execution and strict adherence to safety standards.
