Kolkata: The Kolkata Police SIT probing the alleged Durga Puja pass scandal arrested massArt secretary Dhrubajyoti Basu (Suvo) on Wednesday evening. Over the past few years, Basu had virtually become the face of the Tala Prattoy Durga Puja Committee.According to police, Basu’s name was the first on the list of five individuals named in the FIR.This marks the second high-profile arrest in the case, following that of singer and former state minister Indranil Sen.Basu was arrested in front of the KIT Building at India Exchange Place, said ACP (Crime) Kunal Agarwal. He will be produced before court on Thursday.Sources said Basu’s name surfaced repeatedly during the interrogation of both Sen and his wife, Madhuchhanda. Madhuchhanda had claimed that she had appended several signatures at Basu’s behest. “We will question Basu along with Sen,” an officer said.Reacting to the ongoing probe, CM Suvendu Adhikari said, “He (Sen) has links with the top. When even senior cabinet ministers did not have access to the then CM, he (Sen) was always her closest companion.”Meanwhile, Sen’s daughter, Abheri, skipped questioning at Lalbazar on Wednesday despite being summoned, citing ill health. Officers are evaluating whether to issue a second summons.Basu has been facing legal troubles since early this year after a complaint alleged that he had illegally occupied a vast section of Tala Park in the name of pandal construction.
