Hyderabad: A drunk man stole an RTC bus from Jagtial bus stand and drove it for more than 10km with police in hot pursuit. The bus hit four people injuring them, with one biker narrowly escaping from coming under its wheels.The accused, identified as Sambaiah, a farmer from Dharmapuri village, first reached out to the available RTC staff at the bus stand, asking them to allow him to drive the bus.With the RTC staff not taking him seriously and turning his request down, Sambaiah waited for an opportunity.He soon found a bus, with its conductor and driver leaving to report to the depot staff. The accused boarded the bus and sped away. On seeing the bus being taken away, the driver called Dial 100.On receiving the complaint, the police alerted the patrolling staff to intercept the bus. The bus hit a police vehicle trying to stop it and escaped.Following this, patrol staff in different vehicles began chasing the bus. “We cleared the traffic to avoid accidents. But the accused hit a biker, a couple and a pedestrian on the way. The biker suffered a head injury,” Korutla police told TOI.A video of the bus being driven in a rash manner, with patrol vehicles in pursuit shows the bus hitting a biker from the rear side. The biker narrowly missed coming under the wheels. However, the accused did not stop and continued driving further.Police arranged vehicles to block the road after which the bus hit a roadside tree. Sambaiah attempted to escape, but was caught on the spot.Police have registered a case of theft and negligence and arrested Sambaiah.
