Drugs worth Rs 8.5 crore seized from Champhai & Aizawl

Aizawl: Mizoram Police seized drugs worth over Rs 8.54 crore at three locations in Champhai and Aizawl on Saturday, IGP and chief public relations officer H Ramthlengliana said on Monday.In the biggest seizure, the Champhai district special police task force recovered 9.796kg of methamphetamine, valued at Rs 7.83 crore, from a truck on the Champhai-Aizawl section of National Highway 6 around 1.30pm.Ramthlengliana said.The truck, driven by Vanlalruatsaka (32) of Melbuk village in Champhai district, was travelling from Champhai to Aizawl. A case was registered at Champhai police station under Sections 22(c) and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.In another operation, Champhai district police, assisted by recruit constables, seized 118 grams of heroin worth an estimated Rs 23.60 lakh from a maxi cab at the Khankawn check gate on the outskirts of Champhai around 11.30am on Saturday. The vehicle was travelling to Aizawl. The contraband was allegedly recovered from Vanlalmuana (27), a resident of Shanmyo village in Tahan, Myanmar. A case was registered under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act and Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, police said.In Aizawl, a team from the Special Narcotics Police Station seized 241.21 grams of heroin at Zemabawk and arrested Hussain Ahmed Laskar (23) and Noor Ahmed Laskar (34), both residents of Assam’s Cachar district.Police also seized an Assam-registered vehicle allegedly used to transport the contraband. A case was registered under Sections 21(b), 25 and 29(1) of the NDPS Act.Further investigation into the three cases is underway.
