Hyderabad: A 32-year-old driver suffered severe burns after his younger brother and mother allegedly set him on fire over a family dispute at their residence in Lakkepur village in Manthani, Peddapalli district around 11pm on Friday. The injured, K Raghu, is undergoing treatment at MGM hospital in Warangal. The accused were identified as K Anil, 30, and his mother, K Jyoti, 50.Manthani police said Jyoti’s husband died by suicide 15 years ago. “She had recently started talking to someone over the phone. Raghu had an issue with it and got into an altercation with her. She later called up Anil and the two planned to kill him,” a police officer said.Police said Raghu slept inside theirr house while Jyoti was in the hall when Anil arrived in an inebriated state. The two allegedly poured petrol on Raghu and set him afire. “Raghu woke up and screamed for help. He even tried to catch hold of Anil, who got his hand injured during the struggle,” he said.Hearing Raghu’s screams, neighbours came in and shifted him to a local hospital first and later to MGM hospital, police said. Police said he sustained 60% burns.Based on a complaint from Raghu’s sister, P Soujanya, police registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) . The accused fled from the scene of offence and police were in the process of taking them into custody. Further investigation was underway.
