Ludhiana: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly dragged by her hair and assaulted on a road in Jassian, leading police to register a case against her husband and four of his family members Saturday.Police said the case was registered on the complaint of the victim, Twinkle, who alleged that she was being harassed over demands for a Thar SUV and later a motorcycle.Haibowal SHO Inspector Jasvir Singh said police had booked Ritesh Verma and four of his family members and raids were being conducted to arrest the accused. The victim’s family alleged that the husband had initially demanded a Thar vehicle and later began insisting on a motorcycle, questioning why she could not buy one when she allegedly earned more than him through her salon business.According to the family, the dispute escalated when Twinkle sought refuge at a neighbour’s house. They alleged that Ritesh followed her, dragged her onto the road and assaulted her.CCTV footage submitted to police purportedly shows a man slapping the woman, pulling her by the hair, dragging her on the road and kicking her. Neighbours reportedly rushed to the spot after hearing her screams and intervened.Sources said the couple got married in Nov last year after coming into contact during proceedings related to the woman’s first marriage. Twinkle has a seven-year-old son from her previous marriage. The family further claimed that an earlier dispute over a Thar vehicle had been settled through mediation, but tensions resurfaced after the accused allegedly began demanding a motorcycle.Neighbours later informed the woman’s family about the incident. While Twinkle runs a salon near Samrala Chowk, her husband is employed in the medical sector.
