New Delhi: Around 50-60 Delhi University law students who appeared for their semester examinations have alleged they were marked absent in the results declared earlier in July, despite their signatures on the attendance sheets. University officials have confirmed they have received complaints regarding the same.A final-year Campus Law Centre student, not wishing to be named, said he appeared for the Administrative Law examination on May 28, the results for which were declared on July 30.“I discovered I had been marked absent despite being present for the examination. I approached the administration, after which the attendance list for the examination was accessed and my signature was found on it. I was then asked to submit an application and told to wait for 10-15 days for my result to be updated,” he said.“I am worried whether my marks will be awarded from my own answer sheet or whether my marksheet has been misplaced. This also raises questions about the credibility of the evaluation process,” he added.Another student who appeared for the Constitutional Law paper held on May 18, results for which were also announced on July 30, also alleged he was marked absent.DU Controller of Examinations Gurpreet Singh Tuteja told TOI the cases were related to discrepancies in examination records, including instances where students entered incorrect roll numbers, their names were incorrectly mentioned, or they appeared for an examination in a room other than the one allotted to them.“These are cases where a red entry was made. There can be discrepancies, such as a candidate filling in the wrong roll number, because of which the result is withheld and the student is marked absent. In some cases, students appear in the wrong room, leading to discrepancies in the examination records or marksheet. In such cases, the result is withheld and announced after the discrepancy is resolved,” Tuteja said.He said his office had received 50-60 such complaints from the Faculty of Law, adding it was a small number compared with the total batch of about 10,000 students. “The results are announced only after ensuring the discrepancies are less than 0.5%,” he said.Tuteja said the administration was working to resolve the discrepancies, so that final-year students get their consolidated results at the earliest for registration with Bar Council of India. “Our office staff will also be working over the weekend to resolve these issues,” he added.
