DMK to take a call on delimitation based on the contents of the bill, says DMK organizational secretary
Then chief minister M K Stalin burned a copy of the delimitation bill

Chennai: DMK organizational secretary R S Bharathi said on Wednesday that DMK will take a call on the delimitation issue after seeing the revised draft the proposed bill, which is likely to be tabled by BJP govt in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament, set to being on July 20.“We defeated the delimitation bill once. We will look at the content of the bill when it is tabled. If it is against the interests of TN and southern states, DMK will oppose it. If BJP govt incorporated DMK’s recommendations, there is no need for DMK to oppose it,” Bharathi told TOI. When the bill was tabled in the Parliament in April this year, DMK opposed it, and then CM M K Stalin even burnt a copy. The bill was eventually defeated in the Parliament.Asked if DMK has softened its stand on delimitation, Bharathi said DMK is firm on its fight for state’s rights. “If the changes recommended by DMK are incorporated in the bill, it means that BJP has softened its stand,” he said.Meanwhile, Stalin held a virtual meeting with his party MPs from London and said that DMK will stand for state’s rights. “DMK will oppose any new legislation brought by BJP govt at the Centre if it infringes upon state rights or violates the Constitution. The party will maintain its stand on protecting the federal structure and constitutional principles while forcefully raising issues concerning Tamil Nadu in Parliament,” Stalin said.
