WARANGAL: The District Transport Officer (DTO) of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district was run over by a coal truck on Monday morning while he was conducting vehicle check at the district headquarters.The deceased was M Venkanna, 45, a native of Maripeda mandal in Mahabubabad district. The mishap occurred while Venkanna, along with his team, was conducting a vehicle check outside the RTO office.According to Ghanpur SI B Ashok, a speeding truck loaded with coal hit the DTO from behind on the Bhupalpally-Ghanpur road at 9.30 am, and he died on the spot. The DTO was transferred to Jayashankar Bhupalpally district 20 days ago from Jagtial. The body of the victim was shifted to the Bhupalpally district government hospital for postmortem.In the afternoon, Bhupalpally police issued a statement saying that the incident happened while the DTO was trying to regulate movement of vehicles while a seized harvester vehicle was being moved into the RTO office.A case was registered under Section 106(1) (causing death due to negligence) of the BNS against the truck driver, Md Tasleem. After the incident, the Bhupalpally Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) A Sampath Rao, along with his team, rushed to the spot and gathered details about the accident.Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and minister Ponnam Prabhakar have expressed grief over the tragic death of DTO Venkanna. The Chief Minister ordered the Joint Transport Commissioner Chandrasekhar Goud to conduct an enquiry into the incident. The Chief Minister has also assured that the state government would extend all possible support to the family of the deceased officer, who lost his life while discharging his official duties.
