Discoms undertaking pre-Diwali maintenance and repair work as demand shoots up during the festive season

Jaipur: Power distribution companies (discoms) have launched an extensive maintenance and repair drive ahead of Diwali to ensure reliable electricity supply during the festive season, when power demand typically rises because of decorative lighting, commercial activity and increased household consumption.Senior officials of Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL) said maintenance work has commenced across its 18 zones covering urban and rural areas under its jurisdiction. Consumers may experience temporary power outages in locations where repair and inspection work is underway, though advance information regarding shutdowns will be provided to minimise inconvenience.RK Sharma, director (technical), Jaipur Discom, said field teams have been deployed to inspect loose conductors, damaged insulators, ageing cables, transformers and other equipment that could develop faults during peak-load conditions.“Teams are also assessing feeder-wise loads, voltage levels and demand patterns to identify vulnerable sections of the network and undertake preventive repairs before the festive rush,” he said.According to Sharma, the annual pre-Diwali maintenance programme is aimed at reducing the risk of transformer failures, line faults and unscheduled outages during a period when electricity consumption witnesses a significant increase. The exercise is also expected to improve network reliability and reduce technical disruptions caused by overloaded infrastructure. However, the preventive maintenance drive is likely to result in short-term inconvenience for consumers. Scheduled shutdowns may affect households, markets and small businesses, particularly in areas where extensive repair work is being undertaken. Traders and residents have often expressed concerns over outages during the festive shopping season, when uninterrupted power supply is critical for businesses and commercial establishments.Discom officials said network monitoring will continue throughout the festival period, with maintenance teams and emergency response crews remaining on standby to address technical faults. By completing preventive maintenance across JVVNL’s 18 zones before the festive peak, the utility aims to minimise breakdowns and ensure smooth electricity supply during Diwali celebrations.Shutdowns on Tuesday10:00 AM – 2:00 PM:Subhash Chowk, Walled City AreaSangaripura, Vaishali Nagar, Khatipura, Ajmer Road BelMansarovar Sectors: 4, 5, SFS, 122, 123, 124, and surrounding areas.Central and C-Scheme, Tonk Road, Gandhi Nagar, Durgapura Areas10:00 AM – 4:00 PM:Sanganer, Pratap Nagar Areas1:00 PM – 5:00 PMChaugan, Walled City Areas2:00 PM – 5:00 PM:Triveni Nagar, Rambagh, C-Scheme, Durgapura Belt2:00 PM – 6:00 PM:Khatipura / Jhotwara / Amrapali BeltMansarovar Sectors: 5, 6, SFS, 122, 123, 124, and surrounding areas.
