Shimla: The Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu govt on Monday placed 2012-batch IPS officer and DIG (traffic, tourist and railways) Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi at the disposal of the department of personnel for further posting.Gandhi, who earlier served as Shimla SSP, was promoted to the rank of DIG in January and posted as managing director of Milkfed on Feb 9. However, he did not join the post and was directed to report to the department of personnel on Feb 24. He was subsequently posted as DIG (traffic, tourist and railways) and joined duty on March 24.Gandhi has been in the spotlight after DGP Ashok Tewari in June directed him to pay Rs 1.80 lakh as penal rent for continuing to occupy a govt residence meant for the Shimla SSP beyond the permitted period.Gandhi did not vacate the accommodation, stating that he had not been allotted another suitable residence. As a result, new Shimla SSP Gaurav Singh could not shift into the designated accommodation.Earlier this month, the DGP ordered the setting up of a three-member committee to conduct a special audit of repair and maintenance expenses at the official residence of the Shimla SP at Southwood during 2022-25, when Gandhi served as the SSP.According to police headquarters, Rs 14 lakh was spent on maintenance and repairs, including over Rs 11 lakh from the Shimla police residential fund and more than Rs 2 lakh from the Shoghi police post maintenance fund.The DGP also ordered an independent financial audit of funds released under the Himachal Pradesh Road Safety Fund and Activities Rules, 2022, by the TTR wing headed by Gandhi.Gandhi had sought an audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General.The state govt also transferred two other IPS officers and 54 HPS officers on Monday.
