Dhubri hopes for spl package from new govt

Dhubri: With the formation of the NDA govt in Dispur led by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, residents of Dhubri district are pinning hopes on a special package from the new govt.Despite being a religious minority-dominated district, NDA candidates won two of Dhubri’s five assembly seats in the election. BJP’s Ashwani Roy Sarkar won from Golokganj and AGP’s Jibesh Roy won another seat, while three seats went to Congress and AIUDF drew a blank.Prominent socio-political leader Biswajit Kalita said the NDA had no representation from Dhubri district over the last five years, but has now secured two seats. “Our hopes are high. Our demands for a railway overbridge at Senpara More near Dhubri Railway Station, an alternative road-cum- embankment along the Mora Gadadhar from Dhubri Zila Parishad to Gauripur, and a stadium with all sports facilities should be fulfilled soon,” he added.Another socio-political leader, Rarendra Bhattacharjee, said Dhubri and Gauripur were key constituencies for history, heritage and culture, but have sent opposition legislators since 1991, making development in the two towns “the need of hour.”Bhattacharjee said despite the lack of strong NDA representation since 2016, several development works were sanctioned and are now being implemented in the district.
