Denied credit, woman bites shop owner’s ear

Ahmedabad: A woman allegedly bit off a grocery shop owner’s ear after she was asked to clear pending dues at a shop in the Sarkhej area of the city, police said. A 23-year-old woman from Fatehwadi has filed a complaint with Sarkhej police on Thursday. According to the complaint, the incident occurred on Wednesday, at around 3.30pm, when she was present at the grocery shop with her father in Makarba’s Chhipa Nagar area. A neighbouring couple arrived there to buy groceries. During the visit, the complainant asked the man to pay for goods allegedly taken earlier on credit. The man refused and insisted that he should be provided more groceries on credit. The complainant and her father declined to sell more until the previous dues were cleared. This led to a heated argument, and the couple allegedly assaulted her. The complaint alleged that she was also abused verbally. “When I asked him not to use filthy language, his wife suddenly became enraged and bit my right ear,” the complainant said. The attack caused bleeding from her right ear, prompting onlookers to call the 108 ambulance service. “I was taken to Sola Civil Hospital, where stitches were given on my right ear,” she said. The complainant said she later approached the Sarkhej police station a day after the incident along with her mother and sought legal action against the couple. Police said further investigation is being conducted based on the complaint and witness statements received.
