GURGAON: Traffic movement on roads leading to the Delhi-Gurgaon borders slowed to a crawl on Friday night, with long queues of vehicles stretching across key stretches on the Gurgaon side, as barricading and heightened security ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed protest in Delhi disrupted movement between the two cities. At around 10.30pm, cars, two-wheelers and other vehicles were seen stuck in long queues near the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and on the road from Guru Dronacharya Metro station towards the Aya Nagar border. Congestion was also reported near the Sarhaul border on the Delhi side.

According to sources, the traffic pile-up was triggered by barricading put up by Delhi Police ahead of Saturday’s protest, which has been called to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in election-related processes.Gurgaon police, however, did not confirm that the barricading had caused the congestion, attributing the traffic to the usual rush on a Friday night. While the barricades were installed on the Delhi side, their impact was felt well into Gurgaon, with vehicles moving slowly along approach roads and at key junctions leading to the border. Office-goers returning home and other commuters heading towards Delhi faced delays late into the night.Two-wheeler riders were seen squeezing through narrow gaps between cars, while several two-wheelers and e-rickshaws were seen driving on the wrong side of the road in attempts to get past the congestion.
