New Delhi: Delhi Police has suspended all routine leaves of its personnel “in view of the prevailing law and order situation”, it said in an order that was released Thursday night.The missive came days after police action on youth protesters who, responding to a call given by Cockroach Janta Party, attempted to march to Parliament on July 20. The police action caused injuries to several students. When the protest turned violent later, police personnel too were injured.The Thursday night order said: “In view of the prevailing law and order situation, no routine leave, that is casual leave, earned leave, etc., should be granted to police personnel, including gazetted officers (GOs), with immediate effect until further orders. Leave shall be sanctioned only in genuine emergency cases, duly verified and approved by the sanctioning authority. All DCPs are requested to ensure meticulous compliance.”The order, issued by the police headquarters, imposed restrictions on officers attending training programmes too. Personnel would not be permitted to attend or participate in any course without the prior approval of the commissioner of police until further orders.Security remained heightened across the capital Friday. Heavy deployment was seen around Jantar Mantar and along key routes leading to the protest site. Companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were also deployed.Vigil was also intensified on Delhi’s borders, where police conducted checks to restrict suspicious vehicles and anti-social elements from entering Delhi.
