New Delhi: Delhi Police’s crime branch has arrested two alleged arms suppliers linked to the Bambiha gang and Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang, including a man accused of supplying the pistol used by Shahrukh Pathan during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.Special commissioner of police (Crime) HGS Dhaliwal said 40-year-old Waseem alias Hazi Waseem was arrested Monday from Mayur Vihar flyover service road while allegedly heading towards Akshardham.“Driving a Maruti Swift, Waseem took out a high-end firearm and opened fire at the officers surrounding him. Police overpowered the Meerut native, bringing him to the ground and disarming him,” Dhaliwal said.Investigators recovered a semi-automatic pistol, live cartridges and the car allegedly used for smuggling illegal arms.Police said Waseem was working on the directions of Canada-based gangster Davinderpal Singh alias Gopi Lahoria and was supplying weapons to gang members. His associate, Majid (25), who has over 50 criminal cases registered against him, was arrested Sunday.A team formed by DCP (crime) Sanjeev Yadav comprising inspector Sunder Gautam had been working on the leads since the Chhawla firing incident.“The investigative chain began unfolding on Aug 16, when two young shooters opened fire outside a residence in Deenpur village, Chhawla, over an ongoing property dispute involving Kapil Sangwan’s gang. Police arrested the shooters—Harmanjit Singh and Harshdeep Singh—along with a third co-conspirator, Harpreet Singh, on Aug 19,” DCP Yadav said.Their interrogation led investigators to Waseem and Majid, who allegedly supplied the firearms used in the attack.Police said Waseem has a criminal record involving murder, attempted murder and illegal arms trafficking. He was released from Rohini Jail in Dec last year, while Majid was released from jail on April 24 this year.
