Noida: A 29-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly stalking a journalist, making obscene gestures and passing lewd remarks while following her on a motorcycle in Noida’s Film City earlier this week.During the investigation, the accused was identified through CCTV footage and other technical evidence, which helped police trace his address to a slum cluster in Delhi. After verifying his identity, the accused, an employee of a private company in Noida, was arrested from Sector 90. He was subsequently produced before a court, remanded to judicial custody and sent to jail.The FIR was registered on Thursday under sections 78(2) (stalking), 352 (intentional insults), 75(2) (sexual harassment) and 75(3) (sexually coloured remarks to a woman) of the BNS.The incident occurred on Wednesday morning near Express Tower in Film City as the journalist travelled to work in an autorickshaw. “He came close to the auto, made obscene gestures and passed lewd remarks while riding alongside me,” she alleged in her complaint.She initially thought it was a coincidence but realised he was deliberately stalking her after he repeatedly matched the auto’s speed and continued his behaviour.The journalist said she wanted to confront the accused, but the autorickshaw driver could not keep up with the motorcycle. When she took out her phone to record the incident, the biker allegedly sped away. She, however, managed to capture a video of him overtaking the auto before fleeing.The journalist later approached Sector 20 police station and shared the video on social media, raising concerns over women’s safety in the city. She said it was alarming that such an incident could occur in broad daylight in one of Noida’s busiest commercial areas.
