Gurgaon: Traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-8) will be affected from month-end, as National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) begins construction of a new flyover at Manesar.Vehicles will be diverted onto a section of the Gurgaon-Rewari-Pataudi highway, itself still under construction, officials said.NHAI will partially open the new highway’s main carriageway to accommodate the diversion. Flyovers at Gateway Rail, Harsaru and ATS Chowk are also expected to open, easing traffic away from the NH-8 construction zone. One stretch near Wazirpur will stay closed, however, as a 220-kV high-tension transmission line running through it is yet to be relocated; until then, traffic there will be restricted to the new highway’s service road.Vehicles travelling from Jaipur to Manesar will stay on NH-8 up to Bilaspur, then take the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway from Pachgaon, join NH-352W near Patli Hajipur, exit at TCI Chowk near Jhund Sarai, and continue via Manesar Sector 8 to IMT Manesar Road. From there, Delhi-bound traffic will use the NH-352W service road, connect to the Dwarka Expressway, and rejoin the Delhi route.Traffic to Jaipur will be partially diverted via IMT Manesar Road to TCI Chowk, then NH-352W to the KMP Expressway at Pachgaon, rejoining NH-8 towards Bilaspur. Motorists going towards Pataudi will stay on NH-352W and use the Pataudi bypass instead of the existing Manesar route.Officials said the arrangement is designed to keep NH-8 open through construction rather than shut it entirely. “Marshals will be deployed along with signages to ensure there is minimal disruption,” an official said.NH-8 is among the region’s busiest corridors, and the Manesar stretch alone carries nearly one lakh passenger car units (PCUs) daily, serving heavy industrial, commercial and commuter traffic. Manesar and Bilaspur have long been chronic bottlenecks, with peak-hour traffic often reduced to a crawl.NHAI has awarded contracts worth roughly Rs 84 crore for two flyovers — at Manesar and at Bilaspur Chowk. The Manesar flyover will be a 1.2-km, six-lane elevated structure with three-lane service roads on either side, targeted for completion by 2027. Once ready, the flyovers are expected to let through-traffic bypass the busiest intersections, cutting travel time for local and long-distance commuters alike.Residents say the disruption has already begun to bite. “Traffic congestion has become a daily problem over the past three months.Long queues are common during peak hours, even at IMT Chowk, Bilaspur Chowk and the Manesar bus stand. We understand such inconvenience is unavoidable while infrastructure projects are being built. We only hope the work is completed on schedule so that people can finally get relief,” said Kamal Yadav, a Manesar resident.
