NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Saket court on Saturday dismissed an application filed by Ratna Singh, head of legal affairs at the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), seeking an FIR against police personnel for allegedly detaining her at her residence.Singh had also sought directions for her immediate release. She was released by the police in the evening, news agency ANI reported. In her application, Singh alleged that police personnel had confined her and prevented her from joining a lawyers’ protest against chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. She had sought registration of an FIR against the personnel allegedly involved, along with a police status report on the incident.According to the plea, Singh was proceeding towards the Supreme Court with two fellow advocates to participate in the protest. She alleged that police personnel later prevented her from moving while she was sitting in a car with advocate Tara Narula outside her residence.Singh claimed that two cars blocked her vehicle from the front and rear, and that police personnel stood outside the car without explaining the legal basis for restricting her movement. The application described the alleged incident as wrongful restraint and confinement, and cited concerns over her safety and liberty. The plea came amid detentions of lawyers protesting against the CEC and the SIR exercise near the Supreme Court on Saturday. The Supreme Court Bar Association had approached Chief Justice of India Surya Kant over the detentions, saying the lawyers had been taken to Yamuna Sports Complex. The CJI conveyed to the authorities that they should be released.(With inputs from ANI)
