Delhi CJP stir: 2 cops injured after stone pelting near Akashwani Bhawan

NEW DELHI: Stone pelting was reported near Akashwani Bhawan during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday, leaving two police personnel injured, while several protesters were detained.Security was tightened in the area as police personnel moved to control the situation.Sub-Inspector Bajrang Jadhav was among those injured during the confrontation. When asked how he sustained his injuries, Jadhav said, “I was pushed me, while apprehending the rioters, this caused an injury.”

Police detain protesters

The incident comes amid heightened security across Delhi ahead of the CJP’s proposed ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ demonstration, which seeks Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest, citing public safety, traffic management and law-and-order concerns.Authorities had deployed thousands of police and paramilitary personnel across the capital, set up barricades and intensified checks at entry points to prevent unauthorised gatherings.

Over 1,500 detained across Delhi

More than 1,500 people had been detained from different parts of the national capital ahead of the proposed demonstration, as police stepped up preventive measures.CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, co-convenor Saurav Das and leader Ashutosh Ranka were among those detained after arriving in Delhi, while YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was also detained from his Gurgaon residence.Delhi Police personnel deployed for security were also wearing body cameras to record interactions with protesters and help establish the sequence of events during any confrontation.The CJP has maintained that it intends to continue its campaign for free and fair elections and is demanding the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged voter-list manipulation.(With agency inputs)
