Chennai: The death toll in the car accident near Poonamallee rose to two after a 27-year-old police constable succumbed to injuries at a government hospital on Thursday.The deceased, Arur Kumar ,27, along with Tamil Selvan ,32, and Saravanakumar ,28, all natives of Melur in Madurai district, were serving in the Armed Reserve Police in Chennai.The three policemen, along with two others, had travelled to Ranipet to attend a friend’s wedding four days ago. While returning to Chennai late at night, they stopped their car near Pazhanjur in Sembarambakkam, close to Poonamallee and some of them got down.At that time, a speeding car coming from behind rammed into the policemen standing on the roadside. Tamil Selvan died on the spot, while Arur Kumar and Saravanakumar sustained grievous injuries. Both injured policemen were admitted to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where they were undergoing treatment. However, Arur Kumar succumbed to his injuries, taking the death toll in the accident to two.Avadi Traffic Investigation Wing police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
