Death of Surat man in Qatar refinery blast confirmed

Surat: The death of a Surat man, Sunny Patel, has been confirmed three days after the blast in a Qatar refinery on Sunday evening. On Wednesday, his elder brother Ravi, who also worked in Qatar, identified Sunny’s body. Sunny had gone to Qatar seven months ago for work.Surat district collector Tejas Parmar confirmed Sunny Patel’s death. Speaking to TOI, Parmar said, “The Gujarat govt was in contact with the Indian Embassy in Qatar. We have been informed of the unfortunate death. We are pursuing the matter according to govt protocols and all the help is being offered to the family to get his body to Surat. It is expected to reach Surat in a couple of days.”Sunny lived in the Dumas area with his mother, wife and a four-year-old child. He was working in the mechanical department at the Ras Laffan liquified natural gas complex in Qatar.A blast took place at the Barzan gas supply facility operated by QatarEnergy LNG in Ras Laffan city. Thirteen people were killed while 66 were injured. Sunny was one of those killed in the blast.Ravi has worked in Qatar for many years. He got his younger brother to join him to pursue a career there. Their father had died 15 years ago.
