Ahmedabad: A roadside nap proved fatal for a three-year-old boy, while a routine ride turned deadly for a biker as the city witnessed a string of tragic accidents within a span of hours on Monday. Five people died while one suffered injuries in separate incidents reported from Bopal, Vastrapur, Aslali, Kanbha, and SP Ring Road.In most cases, relatives were left identifying bodies and filing complaints while drivers fled the scene.

In one of the accidents that took place on the Bopal-Ambli Road around noon on Monday. A 33-year-old man was killed and his cousin injured after a cement mixer truck allegedly hit their motorcycle.According to an FIR registered with N-Division police, Gufran Qureshi, 27, an AC technician from Juhapura, was riding towards Bopal with his cousin, Ejaz Qureshi, 33, as the pillion rider when a speeding cement mixer truck allegedly approached from behind and struck the motorcycle. The two men fell onto the road and the truck’s rear tyre ran over Ejaz’s head, causing critical injuries.The duo was taken by 108 ambulance to Sola Civil Hospital, where doctors declared Ejaz dead. Gufran sustained injuries to his left elbow and right ankle and was given primary treatment before being discharged.Police have launched a search for the truck driver, who allegedly fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle.
