Silchar: BJP on Saturday expelled 16 workers from its Cachar district unit for alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities, just days before the first Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) election.The action was taken on the direction of state BJP president Dilip Saikia. The primary membership of the workers was revoked with immediate effect through two orders issued by the party’s state general secretary, Anup Barman.Those expelled include senior party worker Rathindranath Saha, also known as Madhab, former municipal commissioner Rakhi Choudhury and Madhumita Pal, among others.The first order listed 12 workers associated with different SMC wards, while the second named four others. The expelled workers are Dipu Sinha (ward 2), Rakhi Choudhury (ward 4), Nirmal Dey (ward 6), Rathindranath Saha (ward 11), Sangita Chakraborty (ward 14), Tapan Nath (ward 19), Mousumi De (ward 21), Babli Choudhury (ward 31), Saheli Dey (ward 38), Debashree Kar (ward 39), Leena Dey (ward 40), Anupama Das (ward 20), Priyam Choudhury (ward 31), Sangeeta Chakraborty (Babu) (ward 14), Joyjyoti Dey (ward 21) and Madhumita Pal (ward 11).The expulsions come amid intensified campaigning for the Oct 3 civic polls. Earlier on Friday, BJP released its ‘sankalp patra’, promising improvements in drainage, drinking water, roads, waste management and other civic services.
