Kolkata: Police have lodged a case of abetment to suicide after a 15-year-old Class 10 student died following an alleged fall from the eighth floor of a residential complex off EM Bypass on Thursday. She had fallen into the swimming pool. The case was lodged after the girl’s mother sought an investigation into the case. After her parents got separated six years back, the victim was residing with her father, according to police. Cops said the minor had allegedly fallen from the fire refuge area, causing a head injury. She was declared dead at a private hospital. Police have recovered her mobile. However, according to police, no suicide note was recovered from the spot. A senior Kolkata Police officer said the girl’s father had told investigators that she was under considerable mental pressure ahead of her selection exams. The girl’s mother, who lives in Behala, however, lodged a complaint seeking a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to her daughter’s death. Seeking an impartial investigation, she urged police not to conclude that the girl had died by suicide until all possibilities were examined, including abetment, homicide, coercion, intimidation, harassment and assault.“I am not asking the police to reach a predetermined conclusion,” she said in her complaint.“I only want every possible explanation to be examined before the relevant evidence is collected and assessed,” the mother said. Police said an initial probe had not revealed any foul play. Following the mother’s complaint, they registered a case of abetment to suicide and began a probe into the circumstances surrounding the death. “The area from where she fell was not under CCTV coverage. We have started a probe” the officer said.
