HYDERABAD: Hotels and restaurants across the Cyberabad will soon be awarded star ratings based on their hygiene and food safety standards, as part of a first-of-its-kind initiative launched by the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.Under the hygiene assessment programme, food establishments will be evaluated on parameters such as sanitation, cleanliness, food storage practices, and the quality.Based on their performance, outlets will be assigned scores ranging from 10 to 100, which will determine their hygiene ratings.The civic body has already begun inspections. In a recent case, authorities seized a restaurant that scored 20 marks during an assessment, citing violations of food safety and sanitation norms.The initiative is aimed at raising food safety standards, improving hygiene practices and ensuring safer dining experiences for residents and thelarge workforce in the Cyberabad IT corridor.“We are currently inspecting four to five eateries every day. The drive will continue for the next three months, following which eateries will be awarded star ratings. Establishments issued show-cause notices will be given two weeks to rectify the deficiencies. Failure to do so will lead to the premises being sealed,” said senior official from health and sanitation wing, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.
